Some US Fed Cup players say Garrison isn’t communicatingTu: ‘I’ve never even met her’Craybas: ‘The biggest thing is communication and there’s not a lot of that going on’ FROM WIMBLEDON – The US Fed Cup tie against Russia at Stowe, Vermont, will be sold out, which is good news for US tennis. The competition itself has struggled in a big way over the years, mostly because many of the women stars have taken passes on critical ties. Russia and France have been the two dominant nations during this millennium, because both nations have depth and because the likes of Amelie Mauresmo, Mary Pierce, Tatiana Golovin, Anastasia Myskina, Elena Dementieva, Nadia Petrova and Svetlana Kuznetsova have shown up to play. The US hasn't won the cup since 2000, when singles stalwarts Lindsay Davenport and Monica Seles were still in the mix. Venus Williams has made a fairly large effort to compete over the years, but Serena hasn’t. If it wasn’t for Venus and Lisa Raymond, the team would have fallen out of the World Group a few years ago, but they’ve showed up just enough to keep the US respectable. © TennisReporters.net 2007 |
