Rusedski retires at Davis Cup tie

A case of immigration and overachievement in the UK

The '97 US Open runner-up Greg Rusedski used his doubles victory with Jamie Murray in Great Britain's Davis Cup tie against the Netherlands Saturday as the moment to announce his retirement. Chris Bowers, a British journalist who has followed Rusedski‚s career closely, looks back on the Canadian the Brits just about learned to accept.


It's strange how even the jokes you can spot a mile off can still make you chuckle. The day after Greg Rusedski's positive test for nandrolone became public knowledge in January 2004, a caller to a top British radio station suggested that if Rusedski had taken performance-enhancing drugs, he should ask for his money back.
