Lleyton Hewitt was just hoping his body would hold up for his opening match against Cedrik-Marcel Steebe. But he grabbed a four-set win there, advanced past old rival Andy Roddick when the American retired in the second round with an injury, and then on a raucous Friday night on Rod Laver Arena, the two-time Grand Slam champion stopped Canadian sensation Milos Raonic 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5), 6-3. The 30 year old has undergone four surgeries in the past five years and needed a wild card to get into the tournament. But for at least one week, Australia got to recall why former No. 1 Hewitt has been one of the gutsiest , headiest players over the past 15 years.
